My Daily Prayer is Teaching Kids

Hi All,

Since my childhood I never understood why people go to temple and pray? Why they even sit in front of God's idol in home and spend hours just in praying, in a real sense is it praying or begging..... is that idol or photograph or the whole setup called Temple going to help the society - the needy, the poor, the hungry, the orphan, the old, the exploited bride or the girls who were raped or misused or anyone? People say that Beggars are the biggest problem in India but if they analyse, aren't they beggars?

How can those people who just sit in front of temple and pray to god, read rosary can claim that they are the believers of God and those who don't even look at the temple are Atheist, is it logical? Is praying or singing for 2 or 3 or 4 hours in morning and 2 or 3 or 4 hours in evening by just sitting in front of temple a certification of being Theist? Are they certified of being theist? Who has given them this certification? Is there any legal authority?

What is God....? Who is he? Where do you find him..... In Temple... really?

I  pity on those who say we believe in god and still they go to temple and offer flowers, ghee, cotton, candle to God and then they beg for themselves and their family. In India there are many orphan kids who don't even get daily bread.

I have pity on those who starve and beg God to fulfill their wishes, It is required to be practical. I don't say there is no God, I Respect that amazing power and energy who has created human beings, animals, plants, the earth. He/ She has created the whole world perfectly and beautifully, each day I know more about  the world, I love him more. I love this power so much that I believe I can and I should offer every year and devote every second in his prayer.

I Love this power so much that I would offer my service by helping people, my prayer is not by sitting and Singing in front of an Idol but by TEACHING ...as it makes me feel I helped someone in need, its my passion.

  1. Dear,

i agree with your thinking and logic .many of the people also look in a same why as you think but the solution to this problem is still to far to achive .Because we have no proper solution for it.

the best thing for this is to provide education in real manner (what teaching we geather from it ? what is need of learning ? and how can i benefit me and my society? )

A movie " Oh My God " is the real example of your thought.

  3. everything is right in its own way.........the way you look and see its true but if you will see from the old man perspective who sit in the temple and pray to god you will find a different scenario....i am Hindu and in our religion we believe karma is must.....you have to act not only believe or pray and that is the great thing about your post you believe in true karma......it is a very rare thing...one day i would like to be a person who not only think but act......Hats Off...

  4. "Old man's perspective" you are absolutely right... for a kid playing Tennis may be a passion, he/she might play daily for 2-3 hrs and might play daily for whole life....

similarly singing in front of God can be passion for many people and they might love and enjoy that... I indeed love to sing and dance on "Bhajan Sandhiya"..

But I m not criticizing anyone's interest or passion but here I mean if you really think that by begging God or just praying you ll get things you wish, its crap.... I think its just recreation...

Now a days people do nothing for the society and not even for home .... there is no limit of laziness ... but will market themselves as if they are most active :(

  5. Dear Nitisha
    warm greetings of the day!!
well in context to your blog i may not be a person of caliber to answer but i would like to put forth my views yes simply waling out time is not what prayer is, when we pray we do make a confession and we need to not commit the same mistakes as in all religions we have been thought to be kind, just and truthful at the same time to be compassionate towards others(all living and non living)and we also learn that god helps those who help themselves this also indicates that we need to put in our effort, where as for the matter of temple or any religions place has always been only a source to improve ourselves in terms of the above and as a teacher you are well aware then concentration is the key to achievement in life, there has been many examples that belief or no belief but true efforts in the right direction have always bore favorable results
so what i mean to say is the religious places are your energizers but that energy will be helpful to you only if you perform your duty.
I may not be competent enough to comment on others beliefs but i'm sure my belief is true as i have learnt it the hard way
Dear Friends please advice me or correct me if i'm wrong
    with warm reagrds

  6. Really true blog this is.
The same idea is given by the awsme bollywood movie "Oh My God".

Devote these things who really need them not to God who sits in temple.

I love the dialog of that movie "Try to discover God in people's heart instead of looking God in Temples."

    Best Movie it is.
Relate Movie with your Blog it will make more information regarding these fake beliefs.
    Warm Regards

  7. Phalguni Chhabria

I appreciate to what your feelings are but....

Can we run away from God? Ask yourself, don't you say "Oh God" when you are in trouble or when you are happy? We all do, even a small child does. All of us find our own way of reaching him, some find it in singing Bhajans, some find him in temples and some find him in surrendering their services just like you.

I personally feel is, its better to leave people and allow them to live as they want to and reach the almighty. Practically, i agree that i am a God fearing person but not God loving person. I don't sit hours together in front of my house temple or sing song for him. Nor do i stop my Parent do that. If my elders are happy doing that and they feel that is the way to reach him then its fine for me. When our parents are happy don't you think we reached God automatically.

What ever we do outside like serving people i feel its our choice, its our pleasure. Don't stop doing it and nor stop the others doing what they want. This is my view...

    1. Hey Phalguni,

This is the only myth existing among all of us, why we just want to see only our parents happy, why not those who live in old age homes? Why are we just restricted to our parents & our kids? Even animals love their own kids, what difference are we making being a human by just loving our parents and our kids? Everyone on earth does that?
People are happy after singing prayer as they are taught in that manner... to love an Idol...
I know this truth is hurting but they are actually passing time with such activities, which youths do by going to disco or movie.
Are you really helping anyone, by just sitting in front of an Idol and singing?
I know we feel happy after praying coz our prayers tell us to become good human being,(do good to all, be good to all) as we are taught from their childhood to do so? But is it really fair that you call it spirituality and relate only singing songs to being close to god??? Do you really believe god Exist in an Idol? Can anyone could ever prove it??With time evils of society like child marriage, pardah system or infanticide is minimized.
But, praying is not an evil, it give real peace and pleasure to oneself just like some feel after watching a movie. Praying to god is a good practice,I pray daily for 2 min morning and 2 min evening but wasting hours in just praying is like passing time, escaping from work.
If one is very old, that one cannot walk to do any work, its excepted but those who can work, shouldn't work? I just believe if a lady of 60 years can do sweeping and mopping of 5 floors and still she can cook in a college mess. We all have POTENTIAL to do it, than why to waste time in front of an idol, why not join our hands together and work for society... if each one of us will really work with our maximum efforts... money will never be crisis for anyone, no one will die out of hunger.
I just want to reach out to those Educated masses who can help the uneducated or illiterate people and Enlighten them. Help them to realize what they or their kids can do...
I am a God Lover Person too, may we help his people...

  8. Inspiring one...
i completely agree with ur thoughts abt belief of ppl tht they ready to offers prayers to a stone bt nt ready to see him/her in each living being. and help them.
But a bit i got disappointed by ur conclusion as ur title of blog was related to education bt u mentioned this point in ut blog very little , we can spread d light of education among poor and needful kids more with d help of so many specific teams , as a group and individuals also...
I hope u will take it as a +ve comment.

As a whole, ur blog was nice... Congratulations and keep writing..

  10. nitisha,

    greetings!!

i partially agree with what u see in temples or worship places. But a generic observation becoming firm belief needs correction.

as far as people sitting for hours for worshiping in lieu of their social / family / professional duties is not right. But taking time to do worship for self development / realization/ peace is some thing is absolute need.

some people do worship by praying or serving the idols some do by social work. each one is doing so to full fill his or her innermost desire for contentment or happiness. both the ways have merits.

    regards,

    2. Hi Prasanna,
Your thoughts of "To live and let others live" may be okay. Its easy to read newspaper and say the world is so bad so harsh, but when you meet those victims, talk to them you will actually realize that God is not is Idols.People pray by wasting milk or ghee or flowers on stone idols, offering them very very expensive clothes called "chaula".Is it really fair to waste the costliest available things on stone idols when some where a kid might be dying out of hunger, aren't we responsible to make thieves and criminals.
I just have request to only those educated class that if u see someone wasting things on stone idols, please educate them tell them that there is someone dying because too much cold or hunger, help them. If you are pouring milk on stone called god it will go in drainage but somewhere a 3 year raped girl might be dying out of hunger or clothes or lack of medical facility.

  11. Hi!
I kinda agree with the basic thot with which you have penned down this blog that we must wake up from this slumber of dumping all our shortcomings or problems on God but should rouse ourselves to actual action - be it our own lil problems or problems faced by our country or the world at large.
We must own up our responsibility and start acting on it. Teaching is a passion with me too but not just bookish knowledge but knowledge that we can disseminate in real life- to suit a purpose, to face challenges in life, to be able to fend for himself rightfully.
Best of luck and may there be more kind spirits like you who are ready to act for society and for higher good rather than sit at one place to worship and pray only whereas if they were devoting the same time to teach a few poor kids they would probably be earning more "Punya" for a better after life.
    Regards

    1. Very true Sheena, I have met with some orphan kids, they all have very painful stories with them :(
There was an orphan kid whose mother is 13 yr old, she was raped by her brother in law. Another girl ... she ran out of her house when her father burnt her mother in front of her. after leaving her house, she was raped and was found in hospital. :(
I think helping them is more better than wasting milk and clothes etc on stone idols

    2. OMG, if it is really true whatever u have written in ur last reply then it's really slap to all of us who used to say themselves well educated and well cultured...
I don't want to argue with any one but please let me know if i could do anything from my side. I would like to help best from my side.
I hope whoever read last reply of nitisha, will be agree to contribute in making INDIA a better place to live in than today.
It's time to do , not to argue as just reading and discussing is not enough to let our dreams of Happy India come true.

  12. Totally agree with you Nitisha.

Want to add few more points which I haven't understood in human behavior is that now a days except few all are following on the fact and rituals they see doing others and in reality they don't know what they are doing.

Instead of doing such thing for which they don't know the result and purpose they can contribute(according to their capability) and support some children who are not able to study for some reasons. At least they will be knowing the purpose and result of it and it will also make a bright future of our country.

By the way great thought Nitisha.

    Thanks for sharing with us.

  13. Hi Saquib,
thanks for adding points to the article. This is why I have joined an NGO https://www.facebook.com/pages/Abha-chaitanya-women-welfare-society/189341604562839?ref=hl coz it reaches out to families in slums by selling trash of our houses.
when a child is studying, she is not just getting educated, she is getting a NEW life.
