What is online tutoring?

Hi Friends,

After Writing so many articles my students and friends oftenly ask me how do i describe online tutoring? what online tutoring is in actual sense?

online tutoring refers to the techniques used for managing students’ learning in an online environment.  This can include a range of activities such as guiding students through their given tasks, managing their online communication or overseeing collaborative work.

Online tutoring offers the potential for connection in a flexible, creative manner.  It affords the possibility of time for reflection in discussions, brings flexibility to participation and location, increased possibilities for peer support, collaboration and interactivity and a permanent record of discussions which have taken place.  Yet, there are issues to be aware of too.  For example, because there is no face to face contact you will have to find alternative ways of bringing the group together in their virtual learning space. You will need to check on students periodically to ensure that they are not being prevented from participating because of technical challenges or other hidden issues.

  1. I must say online Tutoring is a great concept & I must appreciate the ways you have mentioned for effective online tutoring.

But don't you think that in a country where education itself is a big challenge & only 10% users are internet users, there will lot more challenges for online tutoring?

With the limited bandwith & limited speed available to internet users, I personally believe that the challenges will far greater than expected.

But still considering the INTERNET Boom, online tutoring is surely a future which will reduce your infrastructure cost, commutation time & moreover you will get to interact with students of varied communities.

    Thanks..!!!

  2. Hi Vedang,
your point is right, but as far as online tutoring is concerned, it has no boundaries and no limitation, students round the globe can connect with us to get help.
Moreover a country with above 1 Arab population, even 10% is very big number.
As online tutoring has so many advantages and is successful in other countries, it will lead Indian market soon.
