I am tutoring online since 3 years and i have worked on wiziq,
elluminate, twiddla, etc...
My aim while tutoring is that student should master the concept. I believe that math needs more and more practice so i give my student questions ranging from very simple to most difficult.
Online tutoring is different than F2F tutoring; the reason is students are new to technology. Conventionally we use pen and paper but when it comes to digital board, it becomes difficult to teach and learn. one option is using digital pen and tablet but not every student have that moreover sometimes there are problems like internet speed is low at either end or student have lost microphone etc., so they lose interest in those sessions. But if a session is fully planned and a targeted session for a particular student, I have seen that student is indulge fully in session and grasp hold on concept.

We should give our students time to get used to the technology. We should
include pictures and graphics in session, so that they don’t get a monotonous
session, include variety of questions, for eg if we teach fractions we can take sessions on:
1. Addition of
fractions,
2. Subtraction of
fractions,
3. Multiplication
of fractions,
4. Division of
fractions,
5. Addition of
fractions with unlike denominators,
6. Subtraction of
fractions with unlike denominators,
7. Multiplication
of fractions with unlike denominators,
8. Division of
fractions with unlike
denominators,
9. Addition of mixed
fractions,
10. Subtraction of
mixed fractions,
11. Multiplication
of mixed fractions,
12. Division of mixed fractions,
13. Addition of mixed
fractions with unlike
denominators,
14. Subtraction of
mixed fractions with unlike denominators,
15. Multiplication
of mixed fractions with unlike denominators,
16. Division of mixed
fractions with unlike
denominators.
It depends on grade we are tutoring and level of student how much we
should teach them.
So while tutoring we should keep in mind that we have to add value to
them, they should understand completely
what we am tutoring, and they should not lose interest. Teaching is not and
easy task, it requires much devotion towards willing to understand students requirement,
their grey areas and deciding about the method which will suit them.

ReplyDeleteCongratulations. Its a nice platform and a very interesting topic. The information is very useful especially for people like me who do have much knowledge about online tutoring. Looking forward for more info on the same. All the best.
thanks :)
Deleteyou are correct Nitisha, It is a good challenge to handle the session without correctly knowing student needs. But proper planning helps us to handle and manage the session with complete student's satisfaction. But this blog helps to give a good perception on tutoring to people who are freshly started their career in tutoring

DeleteThanks Ravikishore,
DeleteI believe that teaching should not be taken as a job but as a duty or a service towards mankind and nation. if its a job it might not be done with devotion but generally social services are done with devotion.

DeleteIn my opinion, you are going the right way.Because you need to think as your students do to know all about them and to lead them in the right direction because Good leaders make good leaders and bad leaders make followers.
ReplyDeleteyes, good thought
DeleteHi Nitisha,
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a pleasure to note the services you render to the students community through your efforts to render online tutoring. E- Learning, in a broader perspective has grown by leaps and bounds in the recent years. In my tenure as Faculty in Computer Science at Glasgow, UK, I had an opportunity to observe so many advancements in the primary, secondary and tertiary education among school children wherein it is easy to imbibe the curiosity to learn, assimilate and inculcate interest in learning through game based learning as well as such interactive online tutoring sessions. I wish you good luck and ready to contribute in all possible ways towards your noble goal.
Thank you Shanz!
DeleteHey Shanz
ReplyDeleteThanks for your wishes.

Hi nitisha!
ReplyDeleteI just opened my LinkedIn now and your input on online tutoring is really good. I would also suggest the digital blackboard should be synchronized with the students. Mathematics is quite hard to teach personally much more doing it online. Skype, yahoo messenger, chatroom software, or any social networking devices are very useful because the young generation are very much into it.
More power. :)

skype is very nice platform for effective voice chat, we use skype only for audio chats.

Hi Niti,
ReplyDeleteYou are doing a great job with good dedication and with this mindset, imparting education effectively is not an easy task. In my opinion, this concept of online tutoring is very useful for remote areas of our country. Good Quality Education can be imparted to those kids/students who strive for it in rural areas also.
thanks Abhi, keep reading my articles.
Deletetutoring online, i guess is the best thing i have done in my life...

Hi Nitisha,
ReplyDeleteI suggest the students may retain the concepts longer if they are presented in their social context.
Nice thoughts Nitisha. . We have taken a step forward towards digitization and created an online portal of free educational videos.

Dear Nitisha,
ReplyDeleteReally its good to know that you are taking initiatives to clear the concept of students.
Like you I agree that a student should have a clear conceptual level of what they studying otherwise they will automatically get directed to Rote Learning.
What you have suggested will definitely help a child to understand with a better image of what he/she is studying.
And I really support the process of STOP MUGGING, START LEARNING.
Thanks
